BDA Day One!

Well my first day at Bruce Dunlop and Associates is done and I'm able to post this little blog for you.
Today I was mostly learning: that FCP is bollocks and avid is the 'industry standard' if there is one; running can involve a lot of waiting (though I have been assured today was a freakishly quiet day); that there is also a lot of walking involved sometimes with a runner position, I was sent out into Central London on foot with a google map to aid me to find a number of places, the first of which was a stationers, the last was a large office for a media distribution company; sometimes the job gets dirty, and finally; ALWAYS check if on the lunch run the executive producers salad is missing her favourite ingredient whether she would like something else.

Otherwise my duties today included checking through the fridge, capturing some screen grabs, setting up a meeting room for a meeting, fetching coffee, tidying up, running tapes and promos around Soho, removing fake plants from certain areas and generally helping the place run by doing the little jobs others don't notice or are too busy to really bother with.

I did find out that all the edit suites are avid based except for two with FCP which they sometimes use for throwing a rough assembly together. Also they don't just supplying branding and awareness solutions but also co-produce shows and provide promo material. The design side of the business is not actually BDA but a sister company I never found out the name of.

Tomorrow however I have been informed I will be with the production department and so should have something completely different to write about tomorrow evening.
